MEET THE ARMED ROBBER WHO TRAVELLED OVERSEAS TO TREAT GUNSHOT WOUND....

Why I travel overseas to treat gunshot wounds –Godogodo

Notorious armed robbery kingpin, Abiodun Ogunjobi (aka Abe Godogodo) has made more revelation on why it took the police so long a time to arrest him.
Godogodo told world-click that whenever he was sick, he used to take tratment in either Cotonou or Togo.
Drums were rolled out across the South West region on August 1, 2013, over the arrest of the 36- year-old man who has held sway as the kingpin of men of the underworld in the region.
For 14 years, he was said to have held sway having evaded several attempts to get him arrested before he was finally picked up by operatives of Special Anti- Robbery Squad,  Lagos State Command. He is currently being detained at the SARS cell in Lagos where he spoke to world-click during the week.
When asked how he has for so long evaded the manhunt for him by the police, he said: “You are asking how I survive police arrest, well; if you see one of my eyes; you will see clearly that it is bad. It was gunshot from the OPC (Oodua Peoples Congress) men in Ogun State but I survived it because I was very careful not to have gone to hospitals in Nigeria especially Lagos because experience has shown that doctors in Nigeria while treating bullet wound would inform the police and before you know it, you will be sleeping and when you wake up, you will see your hand handcuffed on the hospital bed.
“I think I have told you before that I don’t believe in juju so I was not patronising traditional doctors because they make claims they cannot substantiate;  you don’t know who is who among them; so I was not risking my life patronising them. What I was doing was to travel outside the country where the doctor will treat me and respect me. Once the doctor asked how I got the wound; I would tell them that armed robbers did it in Nigeria, the doctors won’t ask for Police report; they would be running up and down to save life. Even when I had ordinary malaria or typhoid fever and I sent for drugs in the pharmacy and after two days I was not okay, I would go to a hospital in Cotonou where I would be treated without the doctor asking me useless question on how I sustained the already healed wound in my body”, he disclosed.
On how he got the idea of travelling overseas to treat his gunshot wounds, he says: “You see, I had this experince after the Ifo attack on us by the OPC, one of us though not my member;he joined us from another gang, he also sustained a gunshot wound and he foolishly went to a hospital in Lagos and it was in that hospital that the police came to arrest him. Even when you lodge in a hotel in Lagos; you have to be very very careful because the hotel management may call in the Police. I don’t know how the police commissioner put fears into the minds of people that they give information any how to the police. In fact,  I see Lagosians as cowards and betrayers. That was my problem with O4 hotels in Ajah, the hotel management betrayed us by inviting the Police to raid us. The Police killed two of my trusted members. When I sit down and remember the incident, I would be asking where we had wronged the hotel where we were spending our hard earned money.”
He said he was able to deceive and escape the police at check points or on patrol because he was not using posh cars. “You know the mentality of Nigerians if they see you driving exotic cars your neighbours will start looking into your private life, so also the police. If the policeman sees you driving big cars, he will start asking too many questions and you don’t know where you will goof. That was why I was driving not too good looking cars and the strategy worked perfectly well for me”, he stated.
He further disclosed some of his survival strategies to include avoiding social gatherings. “Well I don’t drink, socialize or womanise. I don’t smoke or drink.  All these, if you avoid them, it will be difficult to expose yourself to danger. Moreso, none of my friends or relatives know my place. Not even my gang members knew that I live in Ibadan until I was arrested. My only mistake was bringing my in-laws close to me. My mother-in-law was used by the police to get me but I don’t blame her because the police brainwashed her”, he added.

The man Godogodo
Drums were rolled out across the South West region on the 1st of August, 2013, over the arrest of a 36-year-old man who has been described as an armed robbery kingpin in the region. His name is Abiodun Ogunjobi, aka Abbey Godogodo.
Godogodo, a well dreaded underworld hero, a picture which for years had been a nightmare to every security personnel, an inspiration to many aspiring miscreants and the most wanted by the past commissioners of police in the South West.
For 14 years, he was said to have held sway having evaded several attempts to get him arrested before he was finally picked up by operatives of Special Anti Robbery Squad, Lagos State command. His arrival at the police command saw officers jubilating over a job well done. Sad but proud to have him in their midst, inmates in the detention cell honoured him as each gang recognised the man who they claim inspired them to rob.
In chains and probably sober, Godogodo told his story from the very beginning with emphasis on his irrefutable taste and reasons for killing over 50 police officers.

Faulty background
Like so many children in Nigeria, his growing up days were filled with poverty and mystery. “I watched my father beat up my mother any time he came home drunk, till he finally left with another woman. My mother was a sickler and was in and out of hospital. The little money she made from her petty trade was used in the hospital till she died. I am the eldest and the responsibility falls on me to ensure that I give my siblings a better life.”
He, however, benefited from the free education and was able to finish his primary school education. “As soon as I was through with my primary school education, I decided to join my mother to hawk bread. I did that for years till a friend took me to a dump site. It was then that I discovered that I could make money picking and selling scraps rather than selling bread.
“In that job, you get to meet all kinds of touts and you need to be strong to survive out there. My greatest mistake was that I joined the bad faction but then no one should blame me because I was determined to survive. We had several clashes and because I was very tall, it was easy to gain their respect. In one of such clashes, I fought with one of the scrap collectors and in the process, I stabbed him. Although he did not die, the police accused me of murder and I was sent to prison at the age of 18, this was in 1999.”

His arrest
According to our police source, when all efforts to trace Godogodo failed, the team decided to arrest some of his close confidantes and business associates.
“All those interrogated by the police do not know where Godogodo lives” one of them told our reporter. The story that made the round, according to one of the suspects, was that Godogodo is beyond arrest and that he was battle ready for the police anytime they came after him.
Along the line, it was revealed that he paid surprise visits to his family members and met their needs without allowing them to come to him. Investigation also revealed that Godogodo had over 1000 registered Sim cards and he always removed each Sim after making a call with it. This, according to sources, is to avoid being tracked through phone calls.
To get to Godogodo, Kyari stormed the residence of his mother-in-law in Ifon, Ogun State and adopted ‘kidnap’ method in order to divert Godogodo’s mind from the fact that police were really after him.
Kyari did not only ‘kidnap’ Godogodo’s mother-in-law, he also picked everybody in that house so as to ensure that the operation remained a secret until the target was arrested.
The mother-in-law did not deny that her daughter was married to Godogodo or that she knew their residence in Ibadan; but the problem was how to get him at home.  So, SARS along with the woman left the command headquarters at about 11pm in four unmarked vehicles like traders and farmers and proceeded to Ibadan and arrived at about 3 a.m.
The mother-in-law was made to call her daughter on phone and after a long discussion about the family, she asked if her husband was at home, to which she quickly said no even though the man was at home. This was said to be the usual answer by Godogodo’s wife. The SARS team was said to have waited till 10am.
They observed that throughout the night, the generator was on, an indication that the man of the house was at home.
SARS operatives laid ambush for him till 10 am, when he emerged dressed in a simple shirt and jeans came out to inspect a building under construction in the compound. That was when they struck.
His attempt to run into the main building for his weapons was foiled, as the policemen shot him in the leg, thereby demobilizing him. He was arrested and brought to Lagos.

THYE BIG QUESTION: WHO WILL SUCCEED GOVERNOR FASHOLA?.

Crisis hits APC in Lagos over Fashola’s successor
An implosion is threatening the political empire of former Lagos State governor and national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu into shreds following a move by his successor and current chief executive of the state, Babatunde Raji Fashola to impose one of his loyalists as the party’s governorship candidate in the 2015 elections.
At the root of the crisis now rocking the newly registered party in Lagos is a directive issued  by Tinubu to some chairmen of local government councils who travelled to the United States of America last week to greet the former governor on his hospital bed that the council bosses should go and begin work for whichever candidate Governor Fashola presents as his choice of successor.
world-click exclusively gathered that prior to the instruction given to the council chairmen in the U.S by the APC national leader, Governor Fashola had met Tinubu in his Ikoyi, Lagos residence where the former presented him with a list of five candidates he will want Tinubu to pick from and anoint as the next occupant of the Alausa Ikeja Government House in 2015.
Top on the list of those shortlisted by the governor is his Commissioner for Works, Obafemi Hamzat;  former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice during the governor’s first term, Supo Sasore; immediate past Commissioner for Finance, Tokunbo Abiru who was recently appointed an Executive Director in First Bank PLC; his successor, Ayo Gbeleyi who was before now a Special Adviser to the governor on Private Sector; and the current Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Waheed Enitan Oshodi.
The two leaders, Tinubu and Fashola were said to have analysed the chances of each of the five candidates in the 2015 election and settled for Hamzat because of the emormous resources and volume of contracts that had passed through his ministry in the past two years. Tinubu was also said to have mentioned the possibility of presenting the current Chairman of the state Internal Revenue Service, LIRS, Tunde Faula, because of the fear that the recent coronation of Hamzat’s father, Oba Olatunji Hamzat as the traditional ruler of Afowowa community in Ogun State may make the issue of indigeneship work against the commissioner.
The silence of Tinubu on the possibility of fielding politically experienced candidates who have since 1999 held his political structures together across the state was said to have angered loyalists of the APC leader. Head of the Tinubu’s political machinery and now Osun state governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola is also said to be unhappy with the development which the camp feels may make it lose the next governorship election against strong contenders like Senator Musiliu Obanikoro and Jimi Agbaje who were both governorship candidates in the past and likely to emerge on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and Labour Party, LP respectively, for the next guber election.
Other candidates Tinubu’s camp are comfortable with and want to see promoted to face any of Obanikoro or Agbaje who are being prodded by the presidency include a former Commissioner for Health under Tinubu, Dr Leke Pitan; a former Commissioner for Environment, Dr Muiz Banire; Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji and two serving Senators, Ganiyu Solomon and Gbenga Ashafa among others.
Armed with intelligence report on the brewing crisis within Tinubu’s political camp, the presidency was said to have already reached out to some of the key figures in the camp with a view to offering one of them the governorship ticket of the PDP so as to divide the APC votes and take hold of the most coveted state governorship seat in the country.
Also sensing the imminent crash of Tinubu political myth in the state, his loyalists under the banner of “Mandate Group” on Monday at an undisclosed location in Lagos began series of meetings to mobilize members across the state ”with a view to helping our leader rediscover himself and save all of us from political suicide”.
One of the local government chairmen, who has been part of the meetings with Tinubu in the U.S and the group in Lagos, told world-click on condition of anonymity that “there is no need denying the fact that Asiwaju told some of us in America that we should not mind whatever anybody tells us and that it is whoever the governor puts down that we should all go and be working for but when we got home, our leaders reasoned that we need to meet and assess the tension and threats from within and outside the family so that we don’t lose all.”
Governor Fashola had after his re-election for a second term banned all groups within the then ACN and now APC but with the increasing tension in the party, the groups have again begun to emerge and redefine their goals.
When asked to react to the tension tearing the party aside, the state publicity secretary of APC, Joe Igbokwe said that he was not aware that some members of the party had been selected as possible candidates for the governorship election in 2015.
According to him “I have not heard or seen any list. The fact remains that democracy is a slow process and there are insinuations and disagreements over who is to lead the flock. When the time comes, the party will sit and choose a worthy representative for the governorship election in 2015.
“APC is committed to moving Nigeria forward and when the appropriate time comes the qualified candidate will emerge.  Our detractors have failed severally and would fail.

IRAN: US WILL GO ON FLAMES IF THEY ATTACK SYRIA...

A Tomahawk cruise missile launches from the US Navy ship, USS Cape St. George, operating in the east.
The chief of staff of Iran's Armed Forces has emphasized that a potential military attack against Syria by the US and its allies will have a ruinous impact on the Israeli regime.
"Any military measure against Syria will draw the Zionists deep in the fire [as well],” said Major General Hassan Firouzabadi in an address on the recent American military threats against the Syrian nation and government on Thursday.

Further elaborating on the ramifications of a potential new military move in the region, the top military commander said, “This will be a huge damage to the human community and its effects will not be merely limited to the Muslim community.”

He stated, “The US, Britain and the rest of their allies will suffer greatly by deploying their military forces to the region and Syria.”
The Iranian commander pointed out that in the more than two years since the beginning of the foreign-sponsored crisis in Syria, the country’s people have demonstrated a high sense of morale and resistance and the eventual outcome of such resistance will be a triumph in any war.
Firouzabadi, who also sits on Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, further noted that one of the reasons for the current rise of poverty and homelessness in the US is the huge expenses the American statesmen have imposed on their people by waging wars in other countries.
He then urged American thinkers and elites, as well as the international community, to look for ways to resolve the great problems that American rulers are imposing on the international community.
The Western calls for military action against Syria have intensified after the foreign-backed militants operating inside Syria claimed on August 21 that hundreds had been killed in a government chemical attack on militant strongholds in the Damascus suburbs of Ain Tarma, Zamalka and Jobar.
A number of Western countries, including the United States, France, and the UK, were quick to engage in a major publicity campaign to promote war against Syria despite the fact that Damascus categorically rejected the claim on the use of chemical arms.
Media outlets reported US plans for likely surgical attacks, which would be in the form of “cruise-missile strikes,” and “could rely on four US destroyers in the Mediterranean [Sea].” The plan was said to be awaiting US President Barack Obama’s go-ahead.
Washington has said it is willing to go ahead with its plans for a strike on Syria even without the approval of the United Nations or despite opposition from its own people as revealed in the latest polls

US DRONE STRIKE KILLS 3 PEOPLE IN YEMEN...

A US killer drone
Three people have died in a US killer drone strike drone in southern Yemen, a tribal source says.
The attack took place on Friday in the province of Bayda.
The Yemeni tribal source added that al-Qaeda leader Qaeed al-Dhahab was among the dead. Witnesses also confirmed the death of Dhahab.
More than 40 people have lost their lives in some ten US drone strikes in the east, south and southeast of Yemen since July 28.
On August 18, thousands of Yemenis took to the streets in the capital, Sana’a, to protest against the rising number of US killer drone attacks in the country.
On August 16, demonstrators in Sana’a also held a protest, censuring the government, which they say is supporting foreign agendas in Yemen while disregarding the demands of the public.
The United States often uses its assassination drones to hit targets in Yemen.
The facts on the ground show that civilians are frequently killed in the raids.
According to the Washington-based think tank, the New America Foundation, the US killer drone attacks in Yemen almost tripled in 2012.
Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Somalia are other major countries where the United States carries out such drone attacks.

PRESIDENT JONATHAN: NIGERIA RAILWAY WILL COME ALIVE IN 2014...

»
FG to conclude railway projects in 2014 –SURE-P
Giving this indication in Abuja, the Convener, Railway Committee of Subsidy Reinvestment Programme (SURE-P), Mr. Chike Churchill Okogwu, said the little delay on the project arose from a discovery that some areas along the corridor were flood-prone areas. So, a serious attention is being paid to ensure that solid work is done to resist any flood.
Also, there was security challenges that led to the death of some workers on the site by some insurgents.
“Now when we talk about lapses, I can give two unique examples. When the job was being scooped and put together and awarded, there was no security challenge in Nigeria. But at some point in Haipang area, for example, one of the contractors lost workers including expatriates.
They delivered material on site and went into a restaurant to have dinner and insurgents came in there and executed about 10 of them. If you were such a contract, what will you do? Will you go back on that site? No. That, of course, took a while to convince them to go back to site.
“You are also aware that two, three years ago we did not have problems of flooding. So, when the job was being scooped, serious attention was not paid to the areas. As a matter of fact, some places have just been discovered as flood-prone areas.
And having seen what happened to us last year, what SURE-P decided to do with the team is to be proactive because we have been forewarned that going further in future, some areas that never used to be flood-prone have become flood-prone because of global warming and climate change. But nonetheless, we are not going to go beyond 2014. That I can assure you,” he said.
Okogwu also gave the indication from August 23, that containers would begin to run on the western line from Lagos to Kano, adding that more employment would be generated through that operation.
“Since Friday, August 23, 2013, containers have started running on the western line from Lagos to Kano. And that is another level of employment coming in because as soon as the containers get to the train stations, they need human beings to go to the cargo from the trains.
The ones that will be handled by machines will be done. But it is more employment and commerce, more trading, more excitement,” he said

FUNNY: NIGERIA SPENDS N635bn ON WHEAT IM PORTATION...

Nigeria spends N635bn on wheat importation
This was disclosed in Abuja at a workshop on “Wheat Value Chain” by the Chairman of House Committee on Agriculture, Mohammed Monguno.
Monguno stated that if the nation’s wheat potential was unlocked, Nigerians would create food for themselves and save the nation the billions of naira spent annually importing the product.
According to him, there was need to diversify the Nigerian economy from being a mono-product one that depends on oil as a source of revenue to agriculture and other sectors, stressing that oil was a westing asset, which would dry up one day.
“This is why we need to diversify our economy to make it agriculture-production based as source of income so that it will continue to grow and also provide employment for the teeming unemployed youths,” he said.
In his address, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, represented by Akinbolowa Osho, stated that wheat was the most extensively grown food grain crop in the world which enjoys a wider popularity in comparison to other cereals due to its high nutritive value, stressing that the wheat growing belt in Nigeria was divergent and highly variable in climate and soil types.
These conditions make irrigated wheat cultivation to be prone to high temperatures either at seedling, flowering or grain filling stages and the rainfed wheat is susceptible to fungal diseases, wheat growers and, therefore, needs genotypes with dependable and consistent yields across the diverse growing environments with high yields potential.
According to him, this is to increase national wheat production by 95 per cent resulting in import reduction by 30 per cent through technology interventions across the value chain with improved varieties, value addition, yield enhancing management practices directed at stimulating 30 per cent yield increase, 70 per cent income among 55,000 wheat farming households by adoption of Norman Borlaug, Atila-Gan-Atila and Reyna 28 varieties in the broad project intervention area.

CREUL: NORTH-KOREA LEADER PUBLICLY EXECUTE EX-GIRLFREIND...

North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un recently ordered the public execution of his ex-girlfriend Hyon Song- wol, accused of ‘pornography’ with a group of artists from the National Orchestra of Unhasu, which his current wife Ri Sol -ju also once belonged to.
The arrest took place on August 17, the execution took place in public three days later.
According to the indictment the women filmed themselves having sex and then sold the videos in China. Some South Korean sources claim that there were many Christians among those sentenced to death who had a Bible at home, a “crime” that you can pay for with your life or imprisonment in a state gulag in North Korea.
Those shot to death include Mun Kyong -jin, director of the Unhasu orchestra, some singers and dancers of Wangjaesan Light Music Band and some army musicians. All family members of the women involved were sentenced to forced labor. According to the Juche ( the delusional state doctrine conceived by the ” father of the nation ” Kim Il -sung ) is not enough to punish those guilty of a crime, but it is necessary to eradicate the evil ” for three generations . ” Every year, on the basis of this principle, thousands of children are born in labor camps and live there until their death.
The “Young Marshal ” Kim Jong-un , the third son and heir of the “dear leader” Kim Jong -il, met Hyon about ten years ago . After a brief “official” relationship, the engagement was broken by the father of the dictator and the singer was given in marriage to a military man, while the “third Kim ” met his present wife . According to various sources, the two have continued to see each other even after their marriages. The public execution is thus seen as a victory of the “Companion” Ri, who gave two sons to the current dictator and wants to ensure their survival in one of the most cruel dynasties in today’s world.
On 8 August, the dictator took part in a concert performed by the now decimated orchestra. The execution is viewed by some analysts as a sign of affirmation of his power: ” Kim Jong-un is cruelly eliminating anyone who might be a threat to his rule, anyone who can defy authority. Public executions are silencing anyone who even thinks of undermining him .

STUDENTS: FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HAVE JUST 7 DAYS TO CALL-OFF STRIKE...

Students give FG, ASUU 7-day ultimatum to end strike

Peeved by almost two-month old strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), yesterday issued a one-week ultimatum to the Federal Government and the union’s leadership to resolve their differences or face serious consequences.
The students said if the impasse was not resolved within the next seven days, it will mobilise students on a nation-wide riot in what it described as ‘operation occupy Nigeria’.
The students’ body  appealed to ASUU to return to the classroom and continue negotiation with the Federal Government since the latter claimed to have released over N100 billion for infrastructural development and another N30 billion for allowances.
This was the highpoint of a protest by the students who blocked the Asaba end of the River Niger Bridge to press home their demands. The protest caused traffic snarl for several hours as the students stalled movements to the eastern part of the country even as those returning were barred.
NANS coordinator in the South-South and South-East, Comrade Chinonso Obasi, stated that students were at the receiving end of the strike and vowed that they would take their destinies in their own hands if the parties failed to reconcile within a week.
“We are appealing to ASUU that since  the Federal Government has been able to release N100 billion for infrastructural development and N30 billion for allowance, they should go back to classroom and continue their negotiation or agitation. This is our prayer and wish.
“We are giving them one week to open the schools or be ready to face corrosive consequences in form of nation-wide demonstration and riots. We are ready to mobilise for that and it will be operation occupy Nigeria,” he said.
Lamenting the effect of the strike,  Obasi said students have become prone to accidents on the  highways and the female students have been reduced to sex hawkers on the streets.
His words: “I stand to tell you that a lot of accidents have been recorded and 99.9% of the victims are Nigerian students. If they were in classrooms, they would not have fallen victims of road crashes.
“Our female students have become commercial sex hawkers on the streets in order to make ends meet. This colossal effect is more than what ASUU is agitating for. Hence, we can no longer fold our arms and watch things go wrong.”

PRESIDENT JONATHAN: WHY I SACKED YOUTH MINISTER...!

Why I sacked Youth Minister –Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has described as false and baseless, insinuations in the media that the appointment of the former Minister of Youth Development, Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir, was terminated because he failed to ensure his preferred candidate emerged as president of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).
The President also denied that he had a preferred candidate in the elections.
According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati, President Jonathan remained sincerely and unwaveringly committed to doing all within his powers to promote the credibility and integrity of the electoral process at all levels in the country.
The Presidency stated that it was Abdulkadir’s “regrettable deviation from his presidential commitment in the management of the NYCN elections that led to the decision to relieve him of his appointment as Minister of Youth Development.”
Jonathan said he was very displeased with the mishandling of the NYCN elections in Makurdi and Minna by the Ministry of Youth Development which resulted in the unfortunate fractionalization of the youth council

MUSIC VIDEO PRODUCER ASWAD AYINDE SETENCED TO 90 DAYS IMPRISONMENT FOR IMPREGNATING HIS DAUGHTER...

Award-winning music director Aswad Ayinde, 55, has been sentenced to 90 years in prison after being found guilty of repeatedly raping his six daughters, resulting in them having six kids for him.
Mr. Ayinde was found guilty in a second trial of having intercourse with one of his daughters when she was as young as eight-years-old.
This second sentence, for which he got 50 years, adds to the 40 year sentence Mr Ayinde received in a 2011 trial for sexually assaulting a separate daughter.
Mr. Ayinde is known for directing the music video for the Fugees 1996 smash hit ‘Killing Me Softly.’
In disturbing disclosures during his trials, Mr. Ayinde’s former wife said he was trying to create a ‘pure family bloodline’ by impregnating his daughters.
He even claimed that ‘the world was going to end, and it was just going to be him and his offspring and that he was chosen.’
In this latest trial, it was revealed that Mr. Ayinde began having intercourse with his second daughter from the time she was eight-years-old, impregnating her four times.
The sexual assaults happened for almost 30 years until Mr. Ayinde and his wife separated.
They occurred in numerous homes across northern New Jersey, even while the family was under watch of state child welfare officials.
Some of the rapes even took place in an abandoned funeral home.
Ayinde’s tortured daughters were home schooled and isolated from other children, so as to keep the family secrets hidden.
The depraved father also beat and starved the girls using wooden boards and steel-toed boots for even ‘minor transgressions’
Mr. Ayinde also fathered 12 additional children with an additional three women, according to court records.
With his wife too afraid to confront him, Mr. Ayinde carried out his evil plan without hindrance even while directing the music video for the Fugees 1996 breakout hit ‘Killing Me Softly, for which he won  ‘Best R&B Video’ at the 1996 MTV Music Video Awards. The Fugees are also originally from Northern New Jersey.
Mr. Ayinde faces three more trials over the alleged assaults.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SET TO BAN IMPORTATION OF FISH...

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, said  on Tuesday that the Federal Government may soon place a total ban on the importation of fish and other aquatic consumables.
Adesina said this in Ado-Ekiti at the launch of the Special Growth Enhancement Support (GES) scheme for Fisheries and Aquaculture value chain.
He, however, said that the ban would be imposed, only if arrangements being put in place by the government to that effect worked as planned.
The minister, represented at the occasion by the Federal Director of Fisheries, Mrs. Foluke Areola, stressed that Nigeria had no business importing fish given its huge natural and renewable resources.
He said it was in view of this that the ministry was promoting increased fish production through the Aquaculture Value Chain.
This is in pursuance of the goal of the Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA), he said
“The Value Chains are to create an enabling environment for increased and sustainable production of over one million  tonnes of fish within the next four years, generate employment and pursue gradual reduction of fish imports.”
Adesina said the Aquaculture Value Chain, under the four- year implementation plan, would increase the annual production of fingerlings in the country by 1.25 billion tonnes.
He said it would also produce 400,000 tonnes of fish feed, generate additional 250,000 tonnes of table fish and 100,000  tonnes of Value Added fish products.
“Fish farming is a business venture with lots of potential investment opportunities and a veritable tool for increased fish production, poverty alleviation and sustainable livelihoods.”
The minister noted that the Aquaculture Value Chain had already been included in the Growth Enhancement Support (GES) scheme for 2013.
Under the scheme, inputs such as fish and other sea foods would be distributed to many Nigerian fish farmers, he said.
The minister commended President Goodluck Jonathan’s initiative in transforming agriculture into a serious business venture as well as in ensuring adequate food security for Nigerians.
He announced that in an effort by government to protect local fish farmers operating in the country, measures had been put in place to curb illegal importation of fish.
Adesina said that the ministry was collaborating with officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service in this regard, adding that the Federal Department of Fisheries had also been directed to ensure that the stoppage of importation of the banned fish inputs.
In his speech, Gov. Kayode Fayemi, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Ganiyu Owolabi, thanked the Federal Government for its benevolence.
He said the state government would support its policies and programmes on agriculture

FENERBAHCE BAN FOR 2 YEARS BY UEFA FOR MATCH-FIXING...

Fenerbahce-afpgtUEFA has banned Fenerbahce from this season’s Europa League and next season’s Champions League for match-fixing.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), allowed the Turkish side to play their two-legged Champions League qualifier with Arsenal, which they lost 5-0 on aggregate, while they considered their appeal.

RIGHT OR WRONG: POLICEMEN SALARIES DEDUCTED...

Inspector- General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar
Members of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have continued to express total resentment and displeasure over what most of them have described as indiscriminate and unfair deductions from their salaries.
The policemen could not fathom why anything for whatever reason should be deducted from their paltry pay package, which to them, is obviously nothing to make a song or dance about compared to the great risk involved in their job.
The Mechanized Salary Section (MSS) of the police was said to have made deductions of N5, 500 from the salaries of the officers in July 2013.
They are to deduct same amount in August, making a total of N11, 000, which the police authorities said was meant for the procurement of Fokas Savings and Loans Limited shares for the officers.
Some of the policemen have raised serious question because they claim they were not duly informed before the deductions were made. They said it was only after the first deductions had been made that they were told about the scheme by the Force leadership. Also, another reason why members of the NPF are so exasperated is that the shares procurement deductions came after N2000 was said to have been deducted from the salaries of senior police
officers, while the junior officers were made to sacrifice N1000 as compulsory contribution towards the World Police and Fire Games (WPFG) in which Nigerian policemen reportedly participated.
This, to the officers, does not make any sense as they believe that the government should have been able to take up the responsibility of footing the bill for their involvement in the games.
Nigeria featured for the first time in the biennial athletic event open to active and retired law enforcement and fire service personnel throughout the
world, which took place between August 1 and 10, 2013 in Northern Ireland.
Some policemen are doubtful of the judicious utilization of the money deducted for the WPFG, as they are of the view that those in charge should be probed to determine whether some people ended up feeding fat from their collective contributions or not.
After the deductions from their July salaries, a police Inspector was quoted by a national newspaper as saying, “Last week I received a text message from my bank notifying me that my salary had been paid. However, I found out that N5, 000 had been deducted. It was a few days later that we were given forms and we were then told that we had to buy shares compulsorily. How could the deductions be made before I even filled the form? The police authorities are leveraging on the fact that policemen cannot openly protest.
The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, must look into this.”
One of the policemen who spoke with this writer was visibly angry at the decision of the police authorities to arbitrarily deduct their salaries without their consent. He said; “Please tell them to return our money and stop any further deduction from our salaries. We are not interested in buying any shares. How can they forcefully deduct our money to buy shares for us when we are not interested? Why should they continue to cut our pay that is not even enough to take us home? The IG should forget this share thing and work towards ensuring an improved salary package for us. Of all the security agencies in the country, policemen are the least paid, even the Civil Defence men are better paid than us. This is not fair. This is the fight we want them to fight for us please.”
However, some of the police officers see the move as a welcome the development. Those in this category feel that the police authorities should rather be commended for coming up with a scheme that will encourage policemen to save, as according to them, many of their colleagues are found of spending frivolously without keeping aside anything from their salaries for the rainy days.
In response to the outcry among the NPF members over the said salary deductions, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar,
came out to make clarifications on why the decision was taken.
Abubakar, speaking through the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Frank Mba, said the N5, 500 deductions from the July salaries
of all police personnel was to the advantage of every member of the Force.
The IGP maintained that the money was for nothing else other than to ease the floating of a mortgage bank, in order to meet the housing needs of policemen. He further explained that the establishment of the bank became essential after policemen had recurrently faced disappointment and frustration by the National Housing Fund (NHF) in their efforts to acquire loans to rent, buy or build a house for themselves.
Noting that by the deductions, every policeman would become shareholder in the bank and will be entitled to a share certificate, loans and
dividends.
Mba said, “The Nigeria Police Force remains the highest contributor to the Federal Mortgage Bank. As at date, contributions by police officers to the NHF and remittances to the FMBN total approximately N8billion. Unfortunately, the Nigeria Police Force has not benefited from the facilities available at the FMBN under the NHF Act while other agencies and corporate groups benefit from huge contributions of policemen. Why? Because the Nigeria Police Force could not float a Mortgage Bank to easily access the required loans for its officers and men. Efforts of the Nigeria Police Force over the years, to establish a mortgage bank had been stalled by administrative instabilities generally occasioned by frequent leadership changes.
Apart from other technicalities and statutory requirements by the Central Bank of Nigeria and other regulatory agencies, the capitalisation sum of N2.5 billion for one state branch or N5billion for a national branch is required before a mortgage bank can be licensed.
Considering the interests of the police in accessing its huge contributions to the NHF, an entirely owned mortgage bank is needed to maximally protect the long-term housing initiative for generations of officers/men and even retirees.”
On why the officers were not properly briefed before the deductions were effected, the police spokesman disclosed that when the IG came up with the scheme, he had invited Commissioners of Police from all over the country to keep them abreast of his plan, with the expectation that they will pass the message across to their underlings.
He however observed that from the acrimonious reactions generated by the deductions, it was apparent that none of them deemed it fit to have informed the officers beforehand.

ABUJA LAWYER SUE FIRST LADY OVER WOMEN RALLY ROAD BLOCK....

A legal practitioner based in Abuja has sued the First Lady, Patience Jonathan; National Council of Women Societies; Inspector General of Police; and the State Security Services, SSS, for blocking some routes during a recent women rally in the city.
The rally which held on August 15, had thousands of women in attendance. It was organized by the National Council of Women in celebration of the contribution and empowerment of Nigerian women.
The crowd kicked off from the old parade ground and ended up at the Eagles Square in Abuja.
Mr. James Abah, in his suit argued that the Women Peace Rally was actually a political one meant to campaign for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.
According to him, the restrictions caused by the event was a breach of his and other Nigerians right of movement as guaranteed by Section 41 of the constitution.
Abah said he had to trek from Wuse Market to his office at Zone 2 and also from Central Business District to Maitama as a result of the restrictions on major routes.
He is asking the court to grant an injunction restraining the accused from restricting movement of the respondent or Abuja residents within the country except within the circumstances as guaranteed by Section 41 (2) of the Nigerian constitution.
“I believe the 3rd and 4th respondents aided the 1st and 2nd respondent in conducting an unannounced barricade and restriction of major routes within the FCT. After waiting for about an hour in traffic as a result of the gridlock, I also saw agents of the 3rd and 4th respondents heavily armed directing and restricting people from driving through the road linking Wuse Zone 2 to Wuse market” Mr. Abah said
The lawyer also prayed that the court orders Mrs. Jonathan and the other accused to publish a written apology to Nigerians and the applicant in two national dailies.

IMO STATE GOVERNOR LEGALIZES ABORTION...

Gov Rochas Okorocha
There’s an ongoing war between Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha and Catholic Medical Practitioners Association over the abortion bill, which the governor recently signed into law.
The law, which was sponsored by the Majority Leader and member representing Ahiazu Mbaise state constituency, Mrs. Adekunle Ihuoma, is to be cited as “Imo State of Nigeria, Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law Number 12 of 2012”.
It permits every woman to procure abortion at will.
According to the new law, every woman shall have the right to enjoy reproductive rights, including rights to medical abortion in cases of sexual assault, rape, incest and where the continued pregnancy endangers the life or the physical, mental, psychological or emotional health of the mother.
The law also states that “every woman shall have the right to take decisions about her health needs and requirements.”
The law was very specific that a woman “shall have the right to determine the processes concerning reproduction in her body.”
However, the decision of the state government on the bill does not go down well with members of the Catholic Medical Practitioners Association, who have described the law as anti-God.
Chairman of the association, Dr. Phillip Njemanze, while reacting to the new law, said “the law is anti-God, dehumanizing and totally unacceptable to the association.”
“The law is devastating. With its signing into law by Governor Okorocha, abortion has been legalized in the state and anybody, just anybody can now ask for abortion as a right in the state.”
He recalled that the National Assembly had earlier rejected the bill, especially as it was against humanity, noting that the law would encourage human trafficking.

THE YORUBAS DECLARE JONATHAN THEIR ENEMY...

National Coordinator of Yoruba Youth Alliance (YYA), Jackson Ojo, has advised President Gooluck Jonathan not to expect votes from Nigeria’s southwestern region in 2015.
Addressing newsmen in Osogbo, Ojo described President Jonathan as number one enemy of the Yoruba, who does not have the interest of the region at heart.
According to him, those referring to themselves as Yoruba leaders and also planning to deliver Southwest to the President in 2015 will fail.
He was reacting to assurance given to President Jonathan by Olabode Goerge, Iyiola Omisore, Ebenezer Babatope, Hossia Agboola, Professor Tunde Adeniran, Kayode Adetokunbo, Wole Oyelese, Lekan Balogun, Musiliu Obanikoro, when they visited him in Abuja.
According to him, “the Yoruba people are worse hit in the power sharing and political office holders under the present administration. No Yorubaman can be found in the list of 20 top political office in the country.
“We’ve not had it so bad as it is being experienced under the present administration of Jonathan. Even during the worst and satanic government of the late General, Sanni Abacah, some Yoruba participated and there were adequate representation. It was the same story under General Abdulsalami Abubakar.
“Despite the fact that Yoruba did not vote for Chief Olusegun Obasanjo in his first term, Yoruba was still appointed to hold some political positions, even under late Musa Yar’Adua, we were still adequately recognized, but now it is not so again.
“The election that brought President Jonathan to power in 2011 saw the Yorubas voting for him massively even not the way we voted our own Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. Despite that fact, the Yorubas are nowhere to be found in Jonathan’s government. The Yorubas are now tenant because we are not partaker in the present government,” he said

VERY FUNNY: 10 NEW PARTIES GETS REGISTERED BY INEC..

As the 2015 general elections draws near, Nigeria’s electoral powerhouse, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had on Monday disclosed that over 10 new applications had been submitted by some political Associations to be registered as political parties.
Professor Attahiru Jega
Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Kayode Idowu, said, “I find it difficult to respond to details and particulars of media speculations about applications to INEC for party registration.
“But it is true that there are more than 10 applications pending currently before the Commission. Application for party registration is a routine experience of INEC.
Speaking further, Idowu said “Really, you could say the Commission receives an average of one application per week. And this is so routine that I can’t begin to proffer particulars of the applications.”
Asked if INEC would continue to register parties, he said, “Yes, of course, because the country’s law provides for it.
“When to stop? Not as long as the provision is there in the legal framework but the law also stipulates that parties cannot be registered 90 days before a general election.
“The Law is also not specific on whether members of an existing party can form another party without prior resignation,” he added.

SHOCKING: BLACKBERRY DUMPS BBM...

If you look at what the consumers are buying it's not BlackBerry handsets, except for the hardcore give-me-my-keyboard folks. The three things that any suitor might want are the handsets, the device management and the network components -- the BBM and the music and the network operations center, said Gartner analyst Michael Disabato.

The company formerly known as RIM has done everything it can to save itself. RIM even changed its name to BlackBerry in hopes of leveraging its flagship branding, rolled out a new mobile Relevant Products/Services operating system, introduced spiffy new smartphones, and got creative with a music service. But it appears to be too little too late.
After reports surfaced earlier this month that BlackBerry is considering all its survival options -- including selling itself -- more speculation about the company's future is coming from the Wall Street Journal. Citing "people familiar with the matter," the Journal reports that BlackBerry is considering spinning off its messaging service into a separate unit.
"We think there is a great opportunity in bringing BBM to other platforms as people look for the right service to have even more engaged conversations on their smartphones," the BlackBerry spokeswoman told the Journal. "People are also becoming leery of how they share their personal information and mobile communication services need to be built for that. They are also looking for a simple, customizable interface and BBM brings that."
BBM's Expansion
BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) would reportedly spin out as BBM Inc. The company has invested plenty in its popular messaging service. In fact, long before there was iMessage there was BBM. Hardcore BlackBerry users relied on the service to communicate with other BlackBerry users all over the world, bypassing text messaging fees.
As an exclusive BlackBerry service, BBM boasted more than 60 million monthly active users and more than 51 million daily active users who were connecting with friends or colleagues an average of one and a half hours every day. The problem was, it only worked BlackBerry-to-BlackBerry.
In May, the company announced plans to roll out BBM to multiple platforms. BBM is now available for Apple's iOS and Google's Android Relevant Products/Services devices. The first version of multi-platform BBM will allow iOS and Android users to tap into several features, including the immediacy of BBM chats, multi-person chats, voice note sharing, and BlackBerry Groups -- BBM users are able to set up groups of up to 30 people and share calendars, photos, and files.
Also in May, BlackBerry announced BBM Channels, a new social engagement platform within BBM that will allow customers to connect with businesses, brands, celebrities and groups. The company plans to add support for BBM Channels as well as voice and video chatting for iOS and Android later this year. (continued...)
